Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. This course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and prehospital settings. This course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills.

American Heart Association offers the BLS course in either a classroom-based or a blended-learning format, which gives you a complete, flexible training solution.
Classroom-based training is entirely Instructor-led. Students complete the entire course in one video-based classroom session with an Instructor, which covers course content, skills practice, and testing.
Blended learning combines self-paced online training with an Instructor-led classroom session. Students first learn the course content online using HeartCode BLS. After passing the included online exam, they attend an Instructor-led, video-based classroom portion focused on skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.
American Heart Association has combined the content previously included in the separate Healthcare Providers (HCP) and Prehospital Providers (PHP) courses! The new BLS course includes in-facility (hospital, clinic, or other healthcare facility) and prehospital tracks that present scenarios reflecting the different work environments of both types of providers, giving Instructors increased flexibility. To reflect the real-life rescues that participants are most likely to experience, Instructors simply choose one track or move from track to track, depending on the needs of the students in the class.
The in-facility track provides scenarios reflecting the work environment of:
All students must pass a written exam and skills test in order to qualify for a BLS Course Completion Card.
